Facilitating Touch Drawing

What does it take to teach Touch Drawing?

Read more about facilitating in FAQS.

Touch Drawing is so simple. Roll some paint onto a smooth surface, place a piece of paper on top, move your hands on the page and lift it off to see the completed drawing... How much can it take to teach? If this was all there was, it would be just a technique listed in a craft book. But Touch Drawing is also an interior process; a state of openness to the Self that can take one through emotional transformation and deeper; into communion with the archetypal realm and the divine source. In a workshop, the consciousness of the presenter influences the depth to which people may go. The ability to help people feel safe, to hold a sacred space and to support authentic communication are essential. On the other end of the spectrum, technical details can make all the difference. For example, how much paper do you need so everyone can do as many drawings as they wish? If a detail is off, a potentially vibrant creative experience may become a frustrating or superficial one.

If you want to share Touch Drawing with others, first establish and deepen your own relationship with the process. This includes opening to its overlighting presence; what I simply call The Guiding Spirit of Touch Drawing. You will be supported to stay with the process if you invite one or two friends to join you in drawing regularly. Before you give a workshop, read The Touch Drawing Facilitator Workbook; an essential resource for both the spirit and technique. When you feel ready, offer a practice workshop, and ask for feedback on your presentation. It is also quite empowering to attend The Gathering; an immersion in Touch Drawing and the community of practitioners. The other way to find support and people with the same specific interest areas is the Touch Drawing Online Community.

If you use Touch Drawing in a public setting, please acknowledge the source and offer our contact information. And let us know what you are doing! How are you integrating Touch Drawing with other processes? What settings are you presenting it in? Reports of both your personal experiences and ways of teaching are vital source material for media presentations and an upcoming book. We invite you to join us as you plant the seeds of Touch Drawing in your own unique garden of life!
